Gothenburg climate march draws thousands ahead of elections

A large-scale climate march took place in Gothenburg, Sweden, with police estimating between 5,000 and 10,000 participants. Organized by approximately 50 groups, including Greenpeace and the Church of Sweden, the demonstration aimed to elevate climate issues ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Speakers at the event included Greta Thunberg, who criticized all political parties and the government for insufficient climate policies. Other speakers included philosopher Jonna Bornemark and physician Daniel Novak. Participants emphasized that the climate issue is a scientific matter rather than a political one, seeking to influence voters and politicians.

In conjunction with these efforts, a 'Festival for Peace and Climate' was held at 35 locations across Sweden. In Södertälje, a new group called the 'Network for Peace and Climate Justice' organized local events to promote community cohesion and highlight the intersection of climate action and peace efforts.
