Gothenburg to host first certified sustainable EuroVolley in 2026
The EuroVolley 2026 tournament, hosted in Gothenburg from August 21 to 27, is set to become the first international volleyball championship to receive official sustainability certification. The organizing committee has integrated environmental, social, and economic sustainability into the core of the event's planning.
Key measures include reducing the carbon footprint by focusing on fan transportation. Officials and volunteers will have free access to public transport, and fossil-fuel-free buses will operate between the Scandinavium arena and the city center. The official travel partner, VR, will provide train services powered by 100% renewable electricity. Additionally, Lynk & Co will provide electric vehicles for event needs.
Food and waste management also feature prominently. Red meat will be excluded from VIP and volunteer catering, and food waste will be recorded and donated to Stadsmissionen. To minimize plastic waste, the event will provide tap water through specialized stations to aim for zero waste.
