Gothia Cup Youths Experience Train Delay and Large Fight in Sweden

An electrical fault in Pålsboda halted several trains near Hallsberg, leaving a chartered SJ train with hundreds of Gothia Cup football players and coaches stranded for more than five hours. The delayed train, bound for Stockholm, saw unrest among the youth as the on‑board bistro was closed, with some teenagers reportedly playing on the tracks before staff intervened. Organisers said water and energy bars were distributed, though some coaches claimed no provisions were available.

Separately, police in Gothenburg responded to a report of a massive brawl at a school involving roughly 30 individuals connected to the Gothia Cup. Initial statements suggested the altercation was between two youth teams, but later police clarification indicated the participants were primarily coaches and players aged 14‑17. No one required hospital care, and the incident is being investigated as assault.
