Gotion High-Tech targets 400 Wh/kg for solid-state batteries
Gotion High-Tech has updated its development targets for solid-state batteries, aiming for an energy density of 400 Wh/kg and a production cost of approximately 130 euros per kWh. This represents a 14% increase from the company's previous target of 350 Wh/kg.
The Jinshi solid-state cells utilize a sulfide-based solid electrolyte. According to the company, these cells have passed rigorous safety tests, including puncture and high-temperature exposure tests, without producing smoke or flames. While currently more expensive than existing NCM and LFP batteries, the technology aims to provide significantly higher energy density with less weight, potentially solving range and weight issues in electric vehicles.
In addition to solid-state developments, Gotion is strengthening its collaboration with Volkswagen regarding LFP battery production, with new projects involving cell and material manufacturing between Europe and Morocco.
