Goulburn Hospital maintains emergency capacity after trial ends
The Goulburn Local Health District has confirmed that emergency department capacity at Goulburn Hospital remains unaffected following the conclusion of a short-stay unit trial. The four-bed trial, which ran from August 2025 to June 2026 to manage winter demand, will remain available for flexible use during peak periods.
Despite the trial's end, the hospital faces ongoing pressure from aged care demands, noting that patients waiting for nursing home placements accounted for more than 2,000 bed days in the last financial year. To mitigate bed pressures, the district is expanding its Hospital in the Home program and increasing same-day surgeries.
Additional healthcare developments in the region include a new dedicated stroke service at Goulburn Hospital and the upcoming opening of a pregnancy and postnatal care centre at Yass Hospital. Renovations are also underway at the Eric Bell Centre and Shannon House to support an expanded midwifery group practice program.
