Goulburn police cadets honor fallen Sergeant Allen Nash

Police cadets at the Goulburn academy held the annual ‘Patch Run’ to honor Sergeant Allen Nash, a Port Kembla officer who was fatally shot in the line of duty in 1956.

Nash was killed in a Primbee backyard while responding to a call regarding gunfire. The incident involved Nikolaj Russin, a man whose life Nash had previously saved during an attack at a Port Kembla hotel. Following the shooting, Nash was posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant by the police commissioner.

The five-kilometer run is a requirement for cadets since 2020, serving as a tribute to fallen officers before graduates receive their light blue student shoulder patches. The ceremony included a presentation to Nash’s nephew, Ken Nash, and a copy of his plaque from the National Police Memorial in Canberra.
