Gourdon hosts 1944 historical reenactment

The Historic association, based in Pouilloux, is conducting a three-day historical reenactment in Gourdon to depict a French village during the 1944 German occupation. The event aims to provide a pedagogical experience that illustrates daily life and the constraints of the era while fostering historical memory.

The first day was dedicated to students, with over 400 children from nine different schools participating in the immersive experience. The program includes various historical sites, such as a German camp with a field hospital, a French camp, and a Maquis resistance camp.

The event features 130 reenactors dressed in period clothing, including both civilians and military personnel, alongside approximately 50 vintage vehicles such as jeeps, motorcycles, and GMC trucks. Organizers noted high levels of engagement from the students as they learned about the role of the SAS, the living conditions of the resistance, and sabotage techniques.
