Gov. Kathy Hochul pushes Lake Placid 2042 Winter Olympic bid
Governor Kathy Hochul visited the historic Olympic Center in Lake Placid, meeting Team USA athletes and highlighting the state's $750 million investment in venue upgrades. She announced the creation of the Lake Placid–New York City Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Exploratory Committee, which will study a joint bid to host the 2042 Winter Games. The plan would use Lake Placid’s existing mountain and sliding facilities while holding indoor ice events in New York City arenas. Hochul said the committee will address logistics such as athlete housing, transportation between the two sites, and cost estimates. She noted that Lake Placid is already designated as a backup venue for sliding events at the 2026 Games and expressed confidence that the region is ready to host if selected.
