Government agencies evaluate aid for flood-affected families in Guatemala

Authorities in Guatemala, including the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV) and the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred), are conducting evaluations in San Miguel Petapa following the rising levels of the Pinula River. These assessments follow a Constitutional Court order for the Executive Branch to take action in the area, which has been designated a risk zone.

Viceminister of Infrastructure Pedro Martínez stated that officials are analyzing 76 homes located in sectors 2 and 4 of Villa Hermosa, the most affected areas. The ongoing technical analysis aims to determine the necessary bridge structures and whether families meet the requirements for potential subsidies. Martínez noted that meeting the initial requirements does not guarantee final approval of aid.
