Government authorities respond to violent unrest in Jalisco and France
Authorities in Jalisco, Mexico, and France are responding to waves of violent unrest and civil disturbances.
In Guadalajara, the Jalisco state government reported that violent groups, potentially arriving from other Mexican states, engaged in coordinated urban guerrilla tactics during a march regarding water quality. The unrest involved the use of Molotov cocktails and attacks on public buildings, including the State Palace and the local Congress. The clashes resulted in 10 arrests and 15 injured police officers. Authorities are working with other states to identify the perpetrators.
In France, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has granted local mayors the authority to impose partial curfews following widespread riots and looting. Cities such as Marseille, Lille, and Douai have implemented various restrictions on public gatherings and movement. The unrest, which began with student protests, has escalated significantly, leading to over 2,500 arrests and approximately 1,000 injured police officers. The French government has also pledged funds for recovery in affected areas.
