Government intensifies Pollença coastline surveillance and cleaning

The Government of the Balearic Islands has increased surveillance, inspection, and cleaning efforts along the Pollença coastline. The Coastal Surveillance Service conducted 12 inspection days and 230 checks across northern Mallorca, specifically targeting the Pollença bay, Formentor, and es Barcarès.

These operations focused on controlling charter activities, anchoring practices, and the protection of Posidonia seagrass. Inspections included verifying skipper licenses, passenger lists, and embarkation authorizations. Environmental monitoring resulted in two citations regarding anchoring on Posidonia. Additionally, PortsIB conducted checks on mooring fields in Formentor, resulting in five reports.

To further organize maritime activity and reduce coastal pressure, PortsIB plans to propose an expansion of mooring fields to the Ministry. In Pollença, the project includes a regulated mooring field between La Gola and the airbase.
