Government leaders launch environmental and social programs in Dominican Republic and Mexico
In the Dominican Republic, President Luis Abinader launched the ‘Fogones por Estufas’ (Stoves for Cookstoves) program in San José de Ocoa. The initiative aims to improve living standards and protect national forests by replacing traditional wood-burning stoves with gas stoves. In the Rancho Arriba community, 1,500 people received appliances, including stoves, gas tanks, refrigerators, and washing machines. The program is intended to expand to other mountainous regions, including Santiago Rodríguez, San Juan, and Azua, supported by the ‘Bono Gas’ to ensure sustainable cooking methods.
In Mexico, Governor Javier May Rodríguez initiated the 2026 Reforestation Campaign in Tabasco. The program aims to plant 2.5 million trees across 2,500 hectares using 186 different species. The effort involves public servants, students, and civil organizations across 17 municipalities to restore vegetation lost in recent decades. Additionally, the ‘Los 3 Potrillos’ estate has been designated as a Voluntarily Destined Area for Conservation (ADVC) to preserve local plant richness.
