Government officials oversee university works in Gabon and address IMF talks in Senegal
In Gabon, Minister of Higher Education Charles Edgar Mombo conducted inspections of university infrastructure projects on September 2, 2026. The tour included the Cap Estérias University Complex, Omar Bongo University, and the University of Health Sciences in Owendo. The inspections aimed to monitor the progress of construction and rehabilitation works, including lecture halls, dormitories, and administrative spaces, to ensure compliance with delivery deadlines set by President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.
In Senegal, Minister El Hadji Abdourahmane Diouf addressed recent economic controversies regarding negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Diouf stated that former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko had previously agreed to the current restructuring during cabinet meetings. The Minister emphasized that the government is maintaining national sovereignty and that recent economic adjustments, such as fuel price changes and the restructuring of Senelec, are autonomous management decisions rather than external dictates.
