Government oversight agencies report on fiscal auditing and budget execution
In Querétaro, Mexico, the Secretaría de la Contraloría (SECON) has appointed 15 external auditing firms to review the 2026 fiscal year financial statements for the Executive Branch and 43 parastatal entities. The audits, which follow international standards, are scheduled to begin in August and cover the period from January 1 to December 31, 2026, with final reports due in January 2027.
In Peru, the Contraloría General de la República (CGR) reported significant budget execution failures regarding disaster prevention. Inspections revealed that 317 local governments have insufficient progress in the budget program designed to mitigate vulnerabilities related to the 2026-2027 El Niño phenomenon. Specifically, 109 municipalities have recorded 0% execution as of July 31, 2026, with Áncash, San Martín, and La Libertad reporting the highest number of inactive districts. Additionally, 208 municipalities have executed less than 40% of their assigned funds.
