Government reshuffles reported in Bangladesh and India

Governments in Bangladesh and India are undergoing or preparing for significant cabinet restructuring.

In Bangladesh, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has implemented a reshuffle six months into his administration. The changes include the appointment of four new ministers and two state ministers, as well as changes to ministry responsibilities. One minister was transitioned to an adviser role. The total number of cabinet members has risen to 51, with an additional 13 advisers and special assistants, bringing the total to 64. This represents the second-largest cabinet in the country's history.

In India, the Narendra Modi government is reportedly planning a major reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers. The restructuring may follow a ‘One Minister-One Ministry’ principle to redistribute additional portfolios currently held by eleven cabinet ministers, including Amit Shah and Ashwini Vaishnaw. The move is also viewed as a potential effort to separate party and government responsibilities to strengthen the BJP organization ahead of the 2029 general elections.
