Governor Abiodun says states should explain petrol subsidy gains
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has stated that state governors, rather than President Bola Tinubu, should be responsible for explaining how gains from the removal of petrol subsidies are utilized. Speaking at an All Progressives Congress rally, Abiodun argued that because increased allocations to states resulted from the subsidy removal, governors are better positioned to account for the funds.
Abiodun asserted that these funds have been used to finance essential infrastructure and support programs, including the construction of roads, schools, housing, and airports, as well as providing incentives for farmers. The debate over the financial impact and accountability of subsidy removal remains a significant political issue in Nigeria as the country approaches the 2027 elections.
