Governor Ahmet Karakaya visits AFAD thematic camp in Ahlat

Governor Ahmet Karakaya of Bitlis province inspected the AFAD thematic camp held at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Millet Garden in Ahlat from June 15‑19. He toured the AFAD Coordination Center, met with staff and participants, and received a briefing from AFAD Bitlis director Kerem Oruk on the camp’s activities.

Karakaya emphasized that disaster management requires a large institutional structure, praising Turkey’s capabilities in search‑and‑rescue, civil society, military, gendarmerie and miners. He highlighted AFAD’s preparation for earthquakes, floods, landslides, avalanches and large‑scale accidents, noting the development of risk‑reduction plans and the formation of numerous working groups. The governor thanked the 411 personnel from 76 provinces who attended the training and stressed the importance of shared experience and coordination among all responders.

The visit underscored the regional government’s support for disaster preparedness and the integration of state and civil‑society resources in Turkey’s emergency response framework.
