Governor Bedolla launches historic 321,000‑fish seeding in Lake Pátzcuaro

Michoacán Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla announced the release of 321,000 native fish fry – white fish and acúmara – into Lake Pátzcuaro as part of the state’s ongoing ecological recovery program. The effort builds on previous releases of 108,000 fry in 2022, 10,000 in 2023, 54,000 in 2024, 89,000 in 2025 and 60,000 in 2026, and includes the first-ever release of 1,500 achoques produced by the state’s Compesca and the Kurucha Uraphiti farm on Pacanda Island.

The seeding is one component of a broader strategy that also targets lake sanitation, reforestation, biodiversity conservation and support for local fishing communities, aiming to restore the lake’s ecological balance and preserve its cultural heritage.
