Governor Celina Leão unveils sports field upgrades and new creative tech hub in Brazil's capital

Governor Celina Leão inaugurated major upgrades to two synthetic football fields in the Distrito Federal on June 20. In Taguatinga Norte, the R$1.97 million renovation replaced the turf, reinforced fencing, added new sidewalks and improved drainage. In Samambaia, the Renova DF program, in partnership with Senai, involved 155 students and added a sand‑and‑rubber surface, new gates and upgraded surrounding facilities.

The same day the governor attended the swearing‑in of Fecomércio‑DF president José Aparecido Freire, announcing a government‑Fecomércio partnership to create a Polo Criativo Tecnológico in the South Commercial Sector (SCS). The project, based on a diagnostic study by the Catholic University and the University of Brasília, aims to revitalize vacant buildings, attract 24‑hour activity and foster innovation and culture. Leão said, "We embrace the project and the government will fast‑track the necessary bureaucratic steps." The commerce sector accounts for 95.4 % of the local GDP and over two‑thirds of formal jobs in the capital.
