Governor Douye Diri credited for Bayelsa's sports development

Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports Daniel Igali said the notable progress in the state's sports sector is largely due to Governor Senator Douye Diri's vision and commitment. Igali emphasized that Diri placed sports at the centre of his administration, using it as a tool for youth empowerment, economic growth, tourism, public health and social cohesion.

He noted that the governor allocated public funds for infrastructure, youth programmes and long‑term planning, and that the Deputy Governor, former Taekwondo athlete Dr. Peter Akpe, along with senior ministry officials, have been essential in implementing these initiatives.
