Governor Ferguson nominates Washington communities for Opportunity Zones 2.0
Washington Governor Bob Ferguson has submitted nominations for 99 low-income and rural areas to the U.S. Treasury Department for the federal Opportunity Zones 2.0 program. The nominations cover 27 counties and 17 tribal lands across the state. If certified, the new designations are scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027.
The program provides federal tax incentives to investors, developers, and financial institutions that direct capital into real estate and businesses within designated zones. The state selected the 99 areas from 152 applications following a public comment period and outreach led by the Washington State Department of Commerce.
In Snohomish County, nominations include Marysville, Everett, and Lynnwood. In South King County, the nominations include 16 census tracts across Burien, Des Moines, Kent, SeaTac, Tukwila, and White Center. Of the 99 statewide nominations, 36 are located in rural communities.
