Governor Gallardo Questions Conagua San José Dam Cleanup Project in San Luis Potosí

State Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona said the planned sanitation project for the San José reservoir, led by the National Water Commission (Conagua) and the State Water Commission (CEA), risks being left unfinished, as many similar works have been. He cited past interventions on the El Peaje reservoir, noting that after rehabilitation the dam no longer suffers from water‑lily infestations and now holds more water than San José.

The San José project, first proposed in 2024, was delayed because technical studies were missing. Conagua and CEA resumed it in May 2026, planning to remove water‑lily, repair hydraulic infrastructure, and prevent sewage inflow. The first phase will be financed through the Proagua program with an investment of 4.2 million pesos, while later stages depend on further coordination and funding.
