California Gov. Gavin Newsom Discloses Tax Returns Showing $1.7‑$2 Million Annual Income
Governor Gavin Newsom and his wife Jennifer Siebel Newsom released four years of federal tax filings covering 2021‑2024. The documents show the couple earned between $1.7 million and $2 million each year from 2022 through 2024, paying roughly $500,000 annually in combined federal and state taxes. Their 2021 income spiked to $4.2 million after selling a Marin County home for about $6 million, generating roughly $800,000 in profit and prompting tax payments of more than $1 million that year.
Most of the Newsoms’ earnings derive from winery and restaurant businesses owned by Gavin Newsom and placed in a blind trust (the PlumpJack Group) when he took office in 2019; the governor’s salary as California’s chief executive is about $200,000 per year. Jennifer Siebel Newsom’s film‑production company, Girls Club Entertainment, reported losses in most years. The filings also list annual childcare expenses of $14,000‑$44,000 for three of their four children and charitable donations of $40,000‑$65,000.
The 2025 tax return was not released because the couple filed for an extension, with completion expected in October. The disclosure comes amid a U.S. Justice Department investigation that Newsom has called politically motivated and as he considers a possible 2028 presidential run. Reporters were required to view the 718 pages of documents in person and take notes by hand.
