Governor Hochul proposes joint NYC and Adirondacks bid for 2042 Winter Olympics

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has launched an exploratory committee to pursue a joint bid for the 2042 Winter Olympics. The proposed bid would feature a partnership between New York City and the Adirondacks region.

During a kickoff meeting in Manhattan, Hochul addressed a committee of 90 public and private officials, expressing strong confidence in the project. She stated that she intends to present New York as the most logical location for the games, noting that the state previously hosted Winter Olympics in the Lake Placid region in 1932 and 1980.

Ashley Walden, President of the Olympic Regional Development Authority and head of the exploratory committee, noted that the group will conduct a “clear-headed and honest” examination of the possibility while maintaining an open mind.
