Tabasco Governor Javier May Rules Out Replacement and Says He Will Retire After 2030 Term

Governor Javier May Rodríguez of Tabasco denied reports that he would be replaced before the end of his six‑year term by Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, the son of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador. He said there are no plans for a change and that his administration will continue its programs until its scheduled conclusion in 2030.

May also announced that he will retire from public life after completing his mandate and will not seek any other elected office. He emphasized that his salary is limited to the legal amount and that his assets are fully disclosed on the state transparency portal, echoing the austerity stance of the national government. The governor refuted rumors about a health problem that could force an early exit.

The statements came after a video showed May travelling in a Premier class seat on an Aeroméxico flight from Mexico City to Villahermosa for a meeting with Bancomext director Carlos Torres Rosas, prompting criticism from political opponents. López Beltrán has meanwhile announced his intention to run for a federal deputy seat from Tabasco in the 2027 elections, with Morena officials noting he is currently the only identified aspirant for that district.
