Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena launches free hearing‑aid program in Yucatán

Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, together with Mexico's federal government, led the distribution of 3,160 hearing‑aid devices in Yucatán, investing roughly 76 million pesos. The initiative, coordinated by the state’s DIF Yucatán, the Beneficencia Pública Nacional and the federal Administration of Public Heritage, aims to improve auditory health for more than 1,600 residents across the state’s municipalities.

Beneficiaries received devices valued at about 24,000 pesos each, including ten specialized Adhear units priced at 80,000 pesos. The program also provided complementary aids such as lenses, wheelchairs and walking frames. The rollout began in Mérida and will continue in towns such as Tizimín, Izamal and Tekax through the end of July, with further distributions planned for the following weeks.

Wendy Méndez Naal, president‑honorary of DIF Yucatán, highlighted the project as a “opportunity to strengthen communication and improve quality of life,” while federal officials praised the coordinated effort as a model for social welfare delivery.
