Governor Jorge Flies' indictment status probed by Magallanes councilor
During a regular session of the Magallanes Regional Council (CORE), councilor Rodolfo Arecheta formally requested that the Regional Prosecutor clarify whether Governor Jorge Flies holds the status of imputado in the criminal investigation concerning the purchase of a property at Alessandri N.º 893, previously owned by tax judge Sergio Vera. Arecheta also asked the prosecutor to disclose any intrusive investigative measures that may have been applied.
Arecheta cited the earlier communication (Office FR No. 138/2026) indicating that the governor was being investigated, which would grant him the quality of imputado under the Penal Procedure Code. He highlighted an inconsistency in the prosecutor’s response to the Punta Arenas Guarantee Court and urged transparency, stating, "When other political authorities have been investigated, the Fiscalía has informed publicly, with speed, both their procedural status and the existence of intrusive measures. It is not understood why the same standard has not been applied in this case." The council approved the request, emphasizing the need for public confidence in the impartiality of institutions.
