Puebla Governor Alejandro Armenta launches $2.5 million community works and Central de Abastos upgrade
Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier of Puebla announced a 2.578 million‑peso investment for ten community projects in San Salvador Huixcolotla. The works include improvements to five educational institutions – two primary schools, two preschools and one high school – the rehabilitation of two sports spaces and a 500,000‑peso allocation to build a fourth access gate for the Central de Abastos Regional Benito Juárez.
The infrastructure component covers 2 km of roadway and the laying of 65,915 m² of asphalt, an area the state says equals 188 streets. The upgrade is expected to benefit 70,522 residents across 17 localities and to ease daily traffic of 40,000‑50,000 people and about 5,000 trucks that pass through the market. The project is coordinated with the federal government; PEMEX supplies the asphalt to reduce costs.
The same program, called Obra Comunitaria, is being expanded statewide. This year the state budget for the program reaches 1.5 billion pesos for roughly 6,000 works, with a target of 2 billion pesos by 2027. The initiative aims to fund projects in ejidos, rancherías, inspectorías and sports facilities throughout Puebla, under the oversight of Governor Armenta and President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum.
