Governor Kathy Hochul addresses tech policy and AI

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has taken various stances on significant technology and safety policies. Regarding social media, she supports restrictions on how teenagers use platforms like Instagram, following a settlement involving Meta and several states. However, these measures raise concerns regarding online anonymity due to the necessity of age verification.

On the issue of firearm regulation, Hochul has implemented restrictions on ghost guns by preventing 3D printers from producing gun parts. This law faces opposition from activists such as Cody Wilson, who has attempted to bypass the ban by altering 3D-printable files.

Additionally, the Governor has addressed infrastructure and surveillance, having signed a one-year moratorium on the construction of data centers in July. Discussions also covered the use of Flock surveillance cameras and the broader political implications of AI during an election year.
