Governor Maru Campos Calls for Review of Security Forces After National Guard Detentions in Ciudad Juárez

Chihuahua Governor Maru Campos Galván supported the recent arrest of five National Guard agents stationed at Ciudad Juárez’s Abraham González International Airport on suspicion of kidnapping and extortion of travelers. She said the internal complaint shows that misconduct must not go unpunished and urged a comprehensive review of police conduct across all levels of government, stating, “Sería importante revisar que en todos los órdenes, en todos los niveles de gobierno, nuestras fuerzas de seguridad se comporten conforme a derecho y hagan el trabajo que tenemos de servir y de proteger a la población.”

Campos also highlighted the recent destruction of seized firearms, describing it as evidence of coordination between state authorities and the armed forces to weaken criminal organizations. She reiterated her satisfaction with the Guard’s self‑reporting, noting, “Me da mucho gusto que haya habido una denuncia por parte de la Guardia Nacional.”
