Governor Mauricio Kuri pushes tougher drunk‑driving penalties and tackles street blockades in Querétaro

Governor Mauricio Kuri González said the state must adopt stricter penalties for drivers who cause fatalities while intoxicated, citing the recent judicial ruling in the case of Paola “N”, known publicly as “La Mufasa”. While respecting the court’s decision, Kuri argued that the legal framework should be reinforced to prevent such deaths and make sanctions more coercive.

Kuri also responded to a recent blockade by merchants and indigenous artisans on Avenida Zaragoza, stating that authorities cannot “treat the unequal equally” and must uphold the law while protecting third‑party rights. He noted coordination with Mayor Felipe Fernando Macías Olvera, who pledged to enforce regulations, file complaints with the prosecutor’s office, and impose sanctions on illegal street vending.
