Governor Mike Braun highlights economic growth in Indiana Uplands
Indiana Governor Mike Braun has highlighted the economic progress of the 10-county Indiana Uplands region, citing a strategy focused on regional partnerships to drive business growth and high-wage employment. During an event in Bloomington, Braun noted that since January 2025, the region has seen the launch of more than 50 new businesses and secured $71.7 million in capital for entrepreneurs and small businesses through the South Central Indiana Small Business Development Center.
Key drivers of this growth include the defense and life sciences sectors, supported by assets such as the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane and Indiana University. Notable corporate developments include expansions or job announcements from Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Prometheus Energetics, Simtra BioPharma Solutions, and Wabash Valley Foods.
Additionally, the region has secured $60 million in state READI funding for community development projects, with further support from the Lilly Endowment Inc. aimed at blight remediation and arts and culture initiatives.
