Governor Mikie Sherrill accepts Mark Cuban's help on NJ health reform

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill is addressing two significant policy areas: state health benefits and federal education funding.

Regarding healthcare, Governor Sherrill has accepted an offer from entrepreneur Mark Cuban to participate in efforts to reduce the rising costs of the State Health Benefits Program for public employees. Cuban offered to join a committee to provide an objective perspective against healthcare conglomerates. The State Health Benefits Program Reform Working Group is scheduled to hold its first meeting on October 16.

In education, the New Jersey Policy Institute is urging the Governor to opt into the Federal Education Tax Credit following the release of new U.S. Treasury and IRS regulations. While teacher unions oppose the move, citing potential resource diversion, proponents suggest the program could drive new spending into public schools through scholarship-granting organizations for services such as tutoring, curriculum materials, and disability services.
