Governor Roberto Cidade launches Operation Virtude to combat elder abuse in Amazonas
On June 15, Amazonas Governor Roberto Cidade inaugurated Operation Virtude, a state‑wide campaign running until June 29 aimed at preventing and addressing violence against elderly residents. The initiative brings together the State Public Security Secretariat, civil and military police, and other protection agencies to conduct awareness blitzes, educational walks, home inspections, and coordinated actions in priority areas.
Cidade announced the new "Segurança Presente 60+" program, which will place police patrols in neighborhoods and establish direct links for seniors to request assistance. The operation will also expand services for the elderly, reinforce existing community centers, and act on reports received through the Disque 100 hotline. "The elderly will be a priority in our management; they deserve a human and caring approach from the government," Cidade said during the launch.
