Governor Rogelio Frigerio advances controversial pension reform in Entre Ríos
Governor Rogelio Frigerio is accelerating a pension reform in Entre Ríos that would raise the retirement age and tighten contribution requirements. The provincial Senate will hold hearings where the head of the Caja de Jubilaciones, Gastón Bagnat, and Economy Minister Fabián Bolea are expected to defend the proposal. Teacher unions and other public‑sector unions are slated to speak, warning that the changes could deepen gender inequality – only 37% of women reaching retirement age have the necessary contributions compared with 64% of men.
The ATE union has also condemned a new decree (No. 1452) establishing a contest system for state hiring, calling it a “smokescreen” that could displace long‑tenured public workers and lacks transparent criteria. Across the province, unions are preparing protests and sit‑ins, arguing the reform places the fiscal burden on workers while ignoring alternative revenue sources.
