Governor Rogelio Frigerio defends new school meals system in Entre Ríos

A provincial court in Entre Ríos ordered the suspension of the new school food assistance scheme, directing the government to revert temporarily to the previous distribution model while the case proceeds. Judge Juan Francisco Malvasio issued the ruling on 5 August, and the provincial executive announced it will appeal the decision and continue guaranteeing meals for all students.

Governor Rogelio Frigerio defended the reform, saying the former system allowed significant nutritional disparities, corruption and “curros” in the procurement of food for roughly 1,500 schools. He argued the new model centralises purchases to ensure consistent quality and prevent misuse of funds. Provincial deputy Carola Laner echoed the criticism of the old system, calling the change a step toward equal opportunity for all children regardless of the school they attend.
