Governor Seyi Makinde outlines political strategy for Oyo State and 2027

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has outlined a political strategy focused on both state governance and his future presidential ambitions. As a candidate for the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Makinde has named Bimbo Adekanmbi of the APM as his preferred successor for the governorship, aiming to ensure political continuity in Oyo State.

Regarding national politics, Makinde is reportedly engaging in discussions with Atiku Abubakar to form a united opposition front for the 2027 presidential elections. While Makinde previously opposed Abubakar during the 2023 cycle as part of the G-5 governors, recent high-profile meetings in Ibadan and Niger State suggest a shift toward potential coalition alignment and collaborative structures.

On the domestic front, Governor Makinde has also addressed the resumption of the 2026/2027 academic session. Through the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, the state government reaffirmed its commitment to improving learning outcomes in both public and private schools through strategic policy interventions and professional standards for educators.
