Governor Thomas Johnson Bridge lane closure scheduled for Sunday

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will close one of two lanes on the MD 4 (Governor Thomas Johnson) Bridge for routine maintenance on Sunday, October 4. The work is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. and is expected to conclude by 2 p.m., weather permitting.

Maintenance crews will focus on replacing reflectors and cleaning the bridge’s drainage system and driving surface. To manage traffic during the single-lane closure, flaggers will guide motorists through the work zone, and portable variable message signs will be utilized to provide advanced notification of the delays.

The bridge serves as a primary link between Calvert and St. Mary’s counties, with more than 30,000 vehicles crossing daily. Drivers are advised to expect delays and are urged to slow down and remain alert for the safety of road crews.
