Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger Attends Harvest Event in Acıpayam, Turkey
Denizli Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger took part in a harvest ceremony for locally developed wheat and barley varieties at the Mehmet Ali Yılmaz facility in Acıpayam’s Yumrutaş neighbourhood. He operated the combine harvester to make the first cut and addressed producers, thanking participants and stressing wheat’s cultural significance.
The ceremony was held under the “Certified Cereal Seed Harvest and Field Day Program” and involved demonstration trials in 13 districts across 17 locations, covering 34 different wheat and barley cultivars, including the “Koç”, “Toprak” and “Çavuş” varieties. The program, coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Agricultural Research and Policies General Directorate (TAGEM), aims to promote varieties best suited to Denizli’s ecological conditions, raise yields and grain quality, increase farmer incomes and support a climate‑adapted cereal production model.
Köşger highlighted that arable land is limited and that boosting productivity requires hybrid seeds and newly bred varieties. Data collected from the field demonstrations were shared with local growers to aid decision‑making and improve future harvests.
