Governor Zulum promotes social protection and aid in Borno State

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has advocated for the inclusive implementation of the $1 billion Household Prosperity and Empowerment Social Protection Project (HOPE-SP). Speaking at the programme's launch in Abuja, Zulum emphasized that addressing socio-economic drivers such as poverty, illiteracy, and inequality is essential to tackling the root causes of insecurity and insurgency in Nigeria, noting that military action alone is insufficient.

To support these efforts, Governor Zulum supervised the distribution of N325 million and food supplies to 100,000 households in Monguno. The aid targeted displaced persons from Kukawa, Marte, Ngnazi, and Guzamala who have lost access to livelihoods due to Boko Haram attacks. The distribution included bags of rice, maize, and beans, with additional cash and supplies provided to female heads of households.

Additionally, the Governor approved a site for the Federal Polytechnic in Monguno, following recent federal approval and state commitments to provide land and support for the institution.
