Governor's Palace in Rijeka completes €8.2 million energy renovation

The Governor's Palace in Rijeka, home to the Maritime and Historical Museum of the Croatian Littoral, finished a major energy‑efficiency overhaul on 18 June 2026. Funded by the EU’s NextGeneration EU instrument, the Primorsko‑goranska County and regional development agencies, the project cost more than €8.2 million, including over €3.5 million of non‑repayable EU assistance.

Renovation works covered 6 300 m², installing a heat‑pump system, photovoltaic panels, new LED lighting, upgraded heating, cooling and ventilation, and improving building accessibility. The museum temporarily moved more than 70 000 artefacts to keep its programmes running. Expected outcomes include a roughly 72 % reduction in primary‑energy use, an over 83 % cut in greenhouse‑gas emissions and substantially lower operating costs for years to come.
