Govinda recalls emotional struggle following mother's death

Actor Govinda has shared details regarding a period of intense grief following the 1996 death of his mother, Nirmala Devi, a noted Hindustani classical singer and actress. He described experiencing "tremendous pain" that led him to walk into the Narmada River in an attempt to "meet" her again.

Govinda noted that while some might characterize the incident as a suicide attempt, he views life and death through a lens where life simply "takes on new forms." He credited an encounter with a sadhu named Ram Kundal, who approached him at the river, with helping him regain perspective and realize his responsibilities to his children.

The actor stated that it took 10 to 15 days to emerge from that emotional state. He added that the loss ultimately changed his perspective on fame and stardom, leading him to prioritize family and fulfilling his mother's dreams over professional achievements.
