Gowa regent faces probe over Rp14 bn school uniform corruption

The regent of Gowa, Sitti Husniah Talenrang, was summoned by the South Sulawesi Criminal Investigation Division (Ditreskrimsus) as a witness in a suspected corruption case involving the procurement of school uniforms for elementary and middle schools. The alleged scheme concerns the purchase of roughly 20,000 uniform sets for the 2025 budget, valued at more than Rp14 billion. Police have examined around eight individuals, including officials from the education department, and are awaiting the audit results of the state audit agency (BPK).

Separately, the National Police Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) dismissed a public complaint filed by a lawyer on behalf of a DPRD Gowa member. The complaint alleged misconduct by the Gowa DPRD’s special committee investigating alleged sexual impropriety and oath violations by the regent. Police concluded the matter falls outside criminal jurisdiction and is a matter for the DPRD’s internal oversight body, citing legislative immunity provisions.
