Gowa Regent Sitti Husniah dismissed following impeachment
The Indonesian Ministry of Home Affairs has officially dismissed Sitti Husniah Talenrang from her position as the Regent of Gowa, South Sulawesi. The dismissal, issued via a decree dated October 14, 2026, is described as an dishonorable discharge.
This decision follows a Supreme Court ruling that upheld the Gowa Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) motion for impeachment. The legislative process was triggered by public protests and subsequent investigations into allegations involving the Regent, including suspected corruption regarding free school uniforms valued at Rp 16 billion and allegations of an extramarital affair.
Darmawangsyah Muin, the current Vice Regent, has been appointed as the Acting Regent (Plt) for the 2024–2029 period. The Gowa DPRD has stated that the focus remains on ensuring administrative stability and the continuity of government services during this leadership transition.
