Goya and San Diego authorities prepare for El Niño flooding

Municipal authorities in Goya, Argentina, and San Diego, Israel, are implementing preventive measures in response to forecasts regarding the El Niño climate phenomenon.

In Goya, local officials are working with national agencies such as SENASA and INTA to monitor technical reports. The municipality is currently upgrading the urban water system, which includes cleaning primary, secondary, and tertiary channels, and preparing eight pumping stations for full operation. New defenses and channels have also been constructed in vulnerable areas like Santa Clara and El Chacal to manage increased population density and runoff.

In San Diego, Mayor Todd Gloria has issued a call for residents to prepare for potential intense rainfall and flooding. Following warnings from the National Meteorological Service that El Niño could intensify during the 2026 and 2027 seasons, the local government is coordinating municipal responses. Residents are being urged to understand their flood risks, create emergency plans, and subscribe to emergency alerts, as excessive rainfall could saturate the city's existing storm drainage systems.
