Santo Domingo tanker explosion kills two people

Two people died following a major explosion and fire involving a fuel tanker on George Washington Avenue in Santo Domingo, near the Hotel Sheraton. The incident, which occurred on Monday morning, involved a tanker carrying approximately 10,000 gallons of diesel, as well as a SUV, a car, and a motorcycle.

Emergency responders, including 12 fire units and approximately 80 firefighters, worked to extinguish the flames and extract the victims. Preliminary reports suggest the fatalities include the tanker driver and another individual, possibly the driver of one of the other vehicles. Authorities are currently working to identify the victims and determine the specific company that owns the fuel tanker.

The accident caused significant traffic congestion in the area, leading local transit authorities to advise drivers to avoid the zone while emergency crews continue cooling operations and investigations.
