Goyang City holds forum on Northeast Asia Peace Archive utilization

A civic forum was held in Goyang City to discuss the future utilization of the Northeast Asia Peace Archive, which is currently under construction near KINTEX. The event, co-hosted by the Goyang City branch of the Democratic Peaceful Unification Advisory Council and the Goyang Civil Society Solidarity Conference, brought together approximately 300 participants, including Mayor Min Kyung-seon and various experts.

Discussions focused on transforming the facility from a mere storage site for North Korean materials into an open platform for research, education, and culture. Experts suggested that the archive should serve as a hub for domestic and international researchers while providing accessible educational programs for local students and residents. Proposals included linking the archive with historical and peace-related resources in nearby border regions like Paju and Yeoncheon.

The Northeast Asia Peace Archive is an expansion of the existing North Korea Data Center. Located in Daehwa-dong, Ilsanseo-gu, the facility will span a total floor area of 8,463 square meters across three floors. It is scheduled to open in the first half of next year and is expected to house approximately 130,000 items, including books, periodicals, and video materials.
