Goyang City issued malaria alert following cluster cases

Gyeonggi Province has issued a malaria alert for Goyang City, marking the third alert in the province this year following similar warnings in Paju and Gimpo. The decision follows the emergence of the first cluster case in Goyang, defined as two or more patients exhibiting symptoms within 14 days of each other and living within 1 km of one another.

Authorities plan to conduct in-depth epidemiological investigations to identify infection sites and environmental risk factors. Response measures include intensive mosquito control in affected areas, rapid diagnostic testing, and the provision of preventive medicine. Local medical and pharmaceutical associations will also assist in public awareness campaigns.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, there have been 269 malaria cases reported nationwide as of August 21, with Gyeonggi Province accounting for 148 cases, approximately 55% of the national total.
