Goyang City to develop long-term eSports and gaming industry strategy
Goyang City is launching a long-term strategy to foster the eSports and gaming industries as key drivers for its future content economy. Supported by 80 million won in combined national and municipal funds, the city will conduct a feasibility study to establish a five-year basic plan spanning 2027 to 2031.
Rather than focusing solely on constructing new stadiums, the city aims to build a sustainable industrial ecosystem. The research will evaluate various infrastructure options, including utilizing existing public facilities, creating small-scale venues, or partnering with private facilities, to minimize fiscal burden while maximizing utility.
The strategy seeks to integrate eSports with existing regional assets, such as KINTEX and the IP Convergence Content Cluster scheduled to open in 2028. By linking gaming with webtoons, broadcasting, and tourism, the city intends to attract companies and teams, nurture professional talent, and support startups.
