Goyang Mayor and Land Minister inspect Ilsan redevelopment progress
Goyang Mayor Min Kyung-sun and Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Hong Ji-sun met on October 21 to inspect the progress of the Ilsan old planned city redevelopment project. The officials visited sites in Baeksong Village, one of the leading districts, to assess the status of urban renewal and long-term public rental housing reconstruction.
Minister Hong expressed concern regarding the relatively slow progress of the Ilsan redevelopment compared to other first-generation new cities. He urged the city to expedite the designation of special maintenance zones and finalize rational improvements regarding standard floor area ratios to ensure visible progress for residents.
In response, Mayor Min announced plans to reorganize the basic plan for the redevelopment of the Ilsan old planned city to revitalize reconstruction efforts. The city will launch a research project next month, with a budget of 500 million won, to examine the feasibility of increasing standard floor area ratios. This study is expected to continue until October next year.
Additionally, Mayor Min submitted five policy recommendations to the Ministry, including improvements to the allocation of industrial areas within public housing districts to enhance self-sufficiency, and support for the Goyang-Eunpyeong Line extension and UAM infrastructure.
